Preservation NC Southwestern Office in Shelby PNC is currently raising the monies deemed necessary by its board of directors to open the much-needed office. As of mid-November, the organization has raised more than $18,000 of its $40,000 goal for this office. Members of the staff will continue to seek supporters in this region of the state to help reach its goal. The Banker's House estate was bequeathed to PNC by Mrs. Nancy Blanton and is under the management of PNC as a stewardship property. As a stewardship property, it will be preserved during its existence. PNC’s office locations are Burlington, Edenton, Hillsborough, Wilmington, and Winston-Salem. Currently, the Winston-Salem office is servicing the entire western region of the state.  Preservation North Carolina hires Mayor of Shelby to lead Southwest Regional OfficeJanuary 2005 Raleigh, NC- Preservation North Carolina’s (PNC) newest regional office in Southwestern North Carolina opened in January 2004 with Autumn Rierson Michael at the helm. Michael recently decided to step down from her position to take on a new challenge at Historic Charlotte. Preservation North Carolina has now hired Ted Alexander, Mayor of Shelby, to lead the Southwest office. A native of Morganton, Alexander is currently a downtown revitalization/preservation consultant. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from UNC-Charlotte and a Master’s degree in Historic Preservation Planning from Cornell University. Alexander has over 20 years of experience in historic preservation and downtown revitalization. After many years of living and working out of state, Alexander returned to Shelby in 1996 to assume his former position of executive director of the Uptown Shelby Association where he served until May 2004. He is the immediate past president of the Historic Shelby Foundation and current president of the North Carolina Downtown Development Association. He serves also on the board of advisors for PNC and is the energy conservation coordinator for Shelby’s Rebuild America. As a consultant, Alexander has worked with downtowns throughout North Carolina, Virginia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Indiana, Iowa and recently with the Japanese Downtown Redevelopment Center for six cities. As the new director of the Southwest regional office for PNC, Alexander will be responsible for the principal administration of the organization’s activities in the Southwestern region of the state. His primary responsibility will be buying, selling, and generating donations of historic properties in the region, promoting historic preservation and PNC in the region, and managing the administrative aspects of the office. He will begin working with PNC as a part-time employee beginning January 3, 2005. Preservation North Carolina welcomes Ted Alexander to the staff and looks forward to gaining new ground for historic preservation in the Southwestern region of North Carolina.
